Hi'iaka's Healing Herb Garden : Newsletter index : 2000 News : Fall 00
Coming Soon...
Volume 2, Number 1 Fall 2000 The Garden Continues Its Miraculous Growth It is so gratifying when plants volunteer to live in your garden. We have Siberian Motherwort, Figwort, and other plants sprouting here and there. I call them "wonderful weeds," for they truly are special plants. As the herbs we began in the Spring mature, we are beginning to make tinctures, collect and dry plants and seeds, and make these available to others. Initially, we've made tinctures of Skullcap, Siberian Motherwort, Spilanthes, and a cold and flu formula with Lemon Balm, Peppermint, Yarrow flowers and Echinacea grown on Kauai. We are also offering dried Sweet and Thai Basil and seed of Figwort and Motherwort. Much more will follow as the Garden continues to mature and blesses us with her bounty. A windfall of Kava kava rootstock has befallen us and we are preparing a new area for Hawaiian healing plants. We didn't plan to grow tons of 'awa, but the Garden Goddess has other plans for us it seems. Garden manager Theresa is also starting our Ayurvedic healing garden in an undeveloped part of the property, which will expand my knowledge in an area not previously explored. My favorite example of "wonderful weeds" -- one Holy Basil plant decided to live amongst the Kava kava, so I planted more. New companion plants! Personal Appearances, Teaching With renewed health and energy, I am pleased to be branching out into the areas that I love the best (aside from "playing" in the garden, that is!). On November 11, I began teaching a series of classes at the Garden and at Kalani Honua Eco-Resort along the beautiful south Puna coast nearby. On November 18, I will be speaking and demonstrating how to make a tincture at Kea'au Natural Foods. Planning a Trip to the Big Island? Please keep in mind our charming Ohana guest cottage. We offer very special rates to all charter newsletter subscribers, so take advantage of a great deal to visit and relax in the peace and solitude of this unspoiled part of Hawai'i. Far from the maddening crowds, only 20 minutes to Hilo. Our Own Domain; Holiday Gifts Finally! It's www.hiiakas.com -- same great content in an easier-to-type format. Again this season, we are offering special gift baskets in addition to our complete product line. Remember--shipping is free! Check out the site for our new baskets:
